Revealed – Why Benfica Fans Banned From San Siro For Champions League Clash Vs Inter Milan
Due to a ban stemming from misconduct by some Benfica fans during last season’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg at the San Siro, Benfica supporters will be absent from tomorrow evening’s match against Inter Milan.
The suspension, reported by Portuguese newspaper A Bola via FCInterNews, comes as a consequence of certain fans launching lit flares into the crowd of Nerazzurri supporters during the aforementioned match.
Benfica has officially apologized for the behavior, and as a result of UEFA’s decision, there won’t be any traveling supporters at the San Siro for tomorrow’s encounter.
This comes at a time when both teams are seeking to improve their performance after less than ideal starts in the group stage campaign, with Inter managing only a draw against Real Sociedad and Benfica suffering a defeat against Red Bull Salzburg in their opening matches.
