Report: “Done Deal,” according to Phil Mickelson, is Jon Rahm signing a LIV golf contract.

It appears that another elite golfer might be choosing LIV Golf over the PGA Tour.

Golf insider Alan Shipnuck claims that Phil Mickelson “has been telling folks” recently that Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters winner, is “done deal” to sign with LIV.

Rahm’s position from a few months ago would change if he decides to join LIV Golf.

Rahm said, “I laugh when people rumor me with LIV Golf,” in a July interview with a Spanish golf podcast. The format has never appealed to me. And during major practice rounds, I always have a great time with Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson. Both Phil and I respect each other’s decisions. I have no need to travel to play for LIV, as Mickelson has repeatedly stated to me.”

Recent signs, though, suggest that the 29-year-old has lost interest in the PGA Tour. He abruptly left the technology-driven arena golf league, TGL, which is partnered with the PGA Tour and is managed by Woods and Rory McIlroy, earlier this month. When asked if he would take McIlroy’s place on the PGA Tour board, he laughed it off.

Rahm said, “Oh, you won’t see me there.” Without a doubt, no chance. A few times now, people have asked me if I’m interested. However, I won’t spend… They have meetings that last six or seven hours, but I’m not sure how often they have them. That’s not why I’m here.

Rahm now seems to have followed in the footsteps of many other golfers, including Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, and Cam Smith, who left the PGA Tour to play at LIV Golf. Because LIV Golf has ties to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) in Saudi Arabia, those players have come under fire for their defections.
