Ndamukong Suh won’t be returning to Detroit anytime soon.
Among these choices is the addition of Quinton Bohanna, a former Cowboys starter who has appeared in every game over the previous three weeks in Detroit. And Detroit chose to sign Tyson Alualuo over Suh even after star interior defender Alim McNeill was placed on injured reserve this week.
Alualuo, a 14-year veteran, has made 113 starts for Pittsburgh and Jacksonville in his career. The 36-year-old offers experience and versatility to a defensive interior that is currently losing its best player, despite the fact that it is obvious he is past his prime.
“He’s been maintaining his fitness, he looked good yesterday; I just wanted to check him out and he completed the medical,” Campbell remarked. “Okay, let’s get started. Let’s get him in football shape like Bruce (Irvin), because, quite frankly, he’s a guy who brings the floor. He offers consistency. We find solace in the fact that you can pretty much predict exactly what you’re going to get. Additionally, he possesses some versatility. We’ll decide then, once we get him to the point where we think, okay, he’s in game shape or ready to do that. See if he can assist us.
Suh, on the other hand, is still without a team. Suh, who was selected by Detroit with the second overall pick in the 2010 draft, went on to become one of the best defensive players of his time. The Lions made a valiant effort to re-sign Suh in 2015 as well, but he was determined to explore free agency and ultimately accepted a record-breaking $114 million contract from Miami, of which $60 million was guaranteed.
Suh has played for the Dolphins (2015–17), Rams (2018), Buccaneers (2019–21), and Philadelphia (2022) during his time in the league. In eight games with the Eagles the previous season, he recorded one sack and ten tackles. During the team’s run to the Super Bowl, he also recorded three quarterback hits.
The 36-year-old is still unsigned nearly a full year later, despite some increasing needs at his position back in Detroit.
