“Nothing changes…” – Same old, same old but Rangers need action not words from usual suspect
Ahead of our crucial game in hand against Dundee, Rangers will have some soul searching to do with James Tavernier in particular having to heed his own advice.
Rangers have been here before with James Tavernier
If Tavernier hadn’t come out to face the music, he would have been accused of hiding.
To a certain extent, he can’t win.
After the start that we had to the season, there was never going to be a big margin of error in the run-in and two defeats in recent weeks to Motherwell and Ross County – who are both in the bottom six – are hard ones to take.
No wonder the old criticisms of players like Tavernier, Connor Goldson and John Lundstram have resurfaced.
The legacy of the Hall of Fame captain is also being questioned again with comparisons to Kevin Muscat and Alec Cleland showing the current level of frustration amongst the support.
Defeat to Dundee would be unthinkable for Rangers and James Tavernier knows what needs to be done:
“So we have six games to play and we go into every game like it is a final. But that has been the case from the start of the season to the end of the season so nothing changes there. But we have to put in a performance that the fans recognise and we recognise as a team.
“We go into every game trying to win the game, nothing changes there. We are obviously going to into these six games and win every single game. But that’s the Rangers mentality, to win games.
“We go to win games in Europe so nothing changes there. We obviously have to earn the right to deliver the performance that we know that we can.”
Rangers have to do the talking on the pitch
What we saw in Dingwall was shocking and unforgiveable.
The attitude, comittment, concentration and individual basics just weren’t good enough.
All through the spine there were failures.
Connor Goldson was caught napping at the back – again.
John Lundstram barely won a second ball and was out of shape most of the afternoon as Ross County saw waves of attack.
And then there was Cyriel Dessers, the sitter missed at 1-0 could well cost us the title.
Tavernier had a woeful afternoon too and will need to show that he believes his own words.
That every game IS a cup final.
If he doesn’t, a season that could have been one of the most memorable, could fizzle out like so many in the past with Tavernier as skipper.
