Callum McGregor, the captain of Celtic, is a topic of constant discussion among supporters as they approach the most important stretch of games this season.Although McGregor is back in the game after missing many weeks due to calf and Achilles issues, he hasn’t performed to the levels we know he is capable of.

After a challenging afternoon, he was replaced off the field at the hour mark during last weekend’s trip to Dundee, which made some people question if Tomoki Iwata should return to the starting lineup.

Thankfully, in the lead-up to Saturday’s game against Hearts, Rodgers has observed some encouraging development in McGregor during training at Lennoxtown.

He believes that the midfield player has significantly improved, giving worried supporters hope that the captain may start to play better.

Brendan Rodgers on Callum McGregor

At a press conference on Friday [Celtic FC], the Celtic manager stated: “I think it’s just a case of trying to get him as near a level to where he can be at.” We have evidently been supervising him.

“I have to admit, this week I noticed a change in him. He had been working hard the past few weeks on the strength of his Achilles, which, to put it mildly, left him somewhat lanky during the games.

This week, a lot of that has been eliminated. Because of his problems, he had to strengthen his Achilles.

He appears much more youthful and lighter on his feet. Although he isn’t quite where he was at the beginning of the season, he appears to be in a lot better spot. Simply put, it was that management.

McGregor is expected to stay on the team.

Despite recent setbacks, the manager’s remarks were encouraging, as McGregor appears set to maintain his spot in the Celtic starting eleven.

In these final four league games as well as the Scottish Cup final, a healthy and effective McGregor may be a huge asset. For example, Rodgers will be anxious to have him closer to peak for the Rangers’ visit the following weekend.

Similar to James Forrest, who is now playing well, the Celtic captain is aware of exactly what is needed to win games when the pressure is truly on.

Hopefully, against Hearts on Saturday, everyone will be able to observe the improvements that have been seen in training.
