Robbie Fraser has lifted the curtain on the message Philippe Clement delivered to him before putting him on for his dream Rangers debut. The youthful left-back is a product of the Ibrox club’s academy and has led the B team, but he has had to wait until the age of 21 to make his first-team debut. That occurred last night during Dundee’s comeback thrashing, with the teenager replacing Ridvan Yilmaz for the final half-hour. Fraser was satisfied with his performance, but says he still has room for improvement. And knowing he had the manager’s belief seemed to help him in his maiden Premier League appearance.
He told Rangers TV: “The manager said he trusted in me, loved what he saw of me, and advised me to keep being positive and doing what I’ve been doing. I felt like I did, but there are still areas of my game where I can improve.
“I was pleased [with my performance], I felt good when I was on the ball, communicating with the backline, I felt good but again there are always moments to get better.” It was the culmination of 14 years of hard work. But the hard work will not cease now.
Fraser added: “It’s something you dream about as a young boy, coming on and scoring three points in front of the fans at Ibrox.” It does not get any better than that. “From here, I’ll keep chipping away like I always have. I’ve always taken pleasure in my ability to be patient, and I intend to continue working hard. “We have a big couple of games coming up soon. We’ll definitely hope to conclude the league season with a win, and then we’ll play in a big cup final next week.”
