As a result, the Bucks will likely be active in free agency and the trade market. One strategy could be to bring back former Bucks who previously fit well with the team. Here’s a look at some potential candidates:
Gary Payton II
The 31-year-old defensive specialist has a player option for $9.1 million next season, which he may opt out of to secure a longer-term deal with more guaranteed money. Despite his health struggles, appearing in only 66 games over the past two years, Payton remains one of the league’s top perimeter defenders when available.
Payton began his NBA career in Milwaukee during the 2016-17 season as an undrafted free agent but didn’t receive significant playing time. His breakthrough came with the Golden State Warriors in 2020, where he showcased his defensive prowess and athleticism.
