Due to a shoulder injury, Commanders’ Jamin Davis will miss the remainder of the season.

Due to a shoulder injury sustained during a Washington Commanders game against the Miami Dolphins, linebacker Jamin Davis will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Outside linebacker Davis, a former first-round selection, was cleared to play again and completed the game; however, an MRI the following day indicated that surgery was required.

Coach Ron Rivera stated on Monday, “The young man has done a great job for us, and we’re really excited about who he is becoming as a football player.”

The linebacking unit benefited from starting middle linebacker Cody Barton’s injury return, which allowed David Mayo to take over for Barton in the position that Davis had held.

Although outside linebacker is a less valuable position than middle linebacker, Davis was originally drafted as a middle linebacker and has since performed well there.

According to Rivera, he was given the difficult task of covering numerous exceptionally talented running backs. And while doing that, he was competitive. He was, in fact. And he seemed to get better the more he played. Yes, he did make a few errors. But he was really improving, you know?

The season consists of just four games remaining. According to his rookie contract, Davis must return to Washington the following year.

The rookie’s contract has a fifth-year option that the team can pick up this offseason, but they almost certainly won’t since outside linebackers typically make a small percentage of what the best middle linebackers make, making the option unfeasible.

According to Rivera, Davis had a significant year in terms of his development.

The coach said, “I thought he took a really big step.” You could really see Cody beginning to settle into the driving position when you watched him play with his newfound comfort.

Over the previous two games, the Commanders’ defense has been poor, giving up a total of 90 points to the Cowboys and Dolphins. Following a bye week, they are back in action on Sunday when they travel to play the Los Angeles Rams.

Other injured players, such as offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles, running back Brian Robinson, and cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr., will be assessed by the team’s training staff when they get back to practice on Tuesday, according to Rivera.

Tuesdays are not usually when the team practices on the field, but this week, according to Rivera, they will have a “quick walkthrough” to get everyone back into the swing of things after a week off before returning to the regular Wednesday–Friday practice schedule.
