From Friday, June 21, through Sunday, June 23, the NCAA permits college coaches to evaluate high school prospects in person. Numerous NCAA-approved events nationwide will feature top prospects.
In Shelbyville, KY, the annual KABC Titan Shootout is underway, showcasing five-star point guard Jasper Johnson, four-star center Malachi Moreno, and other Kentucky targets. Wildcats’ new head coach Mark Pope attended Collins High School on Friday afternoon to watch both Johnson and Moreno, who played consecutively.
Johnson, a 6-foot-4 sharpshooter who played last season for Link Academy (MO), suited up for his previous school, Woodford County, before heading to his official visit in Illinois. He scored 13 points in Woodford County’s 52-36 win over Fern Creek (KY).
Moreno and Great Crossing defeated Seneca 72-48. The skilled seven-footer posted a dominant double-double in the victory. Moreno recently visited Lexington, where he received a re-offer from Pope and the Kentucky coaching staff.
Meanwhile, Kentucky associate head coach Alvin Brooks, who spent the last eight seasons as an assistant at Baylor, is in Texas for the TABC Boys Showcase (Irving, TX). Brooks is evaluating four-star Shelton Henderson, who scored 28 points in Bellaire’s one-point win over Killeen. Henderson, a strong 6-foot-6 wing, is ranked No. 30 by the On3 Industry Ranking and has been in regular contact with Brooks since May. He is also being recruited by Houston, Louisville, LSU, Texas, and Texas Tech.
Assistant coach Cody Fueger is attending both DC Live in Washington, DC, and DMV Live in Hyattsville, MD. Standouts at these events include Sidwell Friends School’s Acaden Lewis, Combine Academy’s Kaden Magwood, and Highland School’s Nate Ament, who recorded an impressive stat line of 41 points, 27 rebounds, and six blocks.
