Pitt Welcomes 4-Star 2025 Guard for Visit

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt Panthers have focused much of June on nationwide recruiting, but they have a key target with local connections.

Amari Evans, a four-star guard in the Class of 2025, is on his official visit to Pitt from June 23-25. During this visit, he will meet with head coach Jeff Capel, the coaching staff, and the team, and tour facilities, including the Petersen Events Center.

Evans shared on his Instagram story a photo of his hotel bed, which was adorned with a poster of him in a Pitt uniform, a Panther image, a cookie cake, two smaller posters of him in Pitt gear, two lit candles, and an array of snacks.

Evans began his high school career in Pittsburgh at Bishop Canevin before transferring to Our Savior Lutheran in Bronx, N.Y. He currently plays with Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Ga.

Ranked as a four-star recruit, Evans is listed by 247Sports as No. 114 nationally and the No. 14 shooting guard in the Class of 2025. On3 ranks him as No. 71 nationally and the No. 15 shooting guard, while ESPN places him at No. 82 in the U.S., No. 23 in the Southeast Region, and No. 5 in Georgia.

He is also teammates with five-star guard Meleek Thomas on the New Heights Lightning NYC on the Nike Circuit, with Thomas joining him at Overtime Elite for his senior year.

Evans previously made an unofficial visit to Pitt during the 2023 Christmas break, during which he received an offer.

A versatile guard, Evans excels defensively, using his wingspan for steals, rebounds, and blocks. Offensively, he drives to the rim and shoots from behind the arc, creating space for teammates. On the EYBL Circuit, he averaged 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, earning Overtime Elite Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Besides Pitt, Evans has made unofficial visits to Tennessee and Oklahoma State and is being pursued by Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Illinois. He holds offers from Big East schools Marquette, Providence, Villanova, and Xavier, as well as Bryant, Cal Poly, Fordham, Georgia, Manhattan, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pepperdine, Robert Morris, Sam Houston State, and TCU.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is one of three players from the Class of 2025 that Pitt will host for official visits, including Meleek Thomas and Derek Dixon. Dixon, a four-star guard from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., visited Pitt in early April and also visited ACC rival Virginia.
