Kansas City Royals squander excellent performance by Seth Lugo in defeat against Marlins. Here’s the breakdown.

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Seth Lugo appeared poised to secure another notable victory for his All-Star campaign on Tuesday night, only to see the Royals’ bullpen falter once again.

Lugo pitched six scoreless innings against the Miami Marlins, putting himself in position for his 11th win of the season. However, the Royals surrendered an early lead and eventually lost 2-1 at Kauffman Stadium.

In the seventh inning, the Marlins capitalized on opportunities against Royals relievers Carlos Hernandez and Will Smith. Otto Lopez of the Marlins doubled off Hernandez and later scored on Nick Gordon’s RBI single. Smith’s throwing error allowed another run to score, giving Miami the lead.

Despite Lugo’s strong performance, he did not factor into the decision, maintaining his 10-2 record for the season with 13 quality starts, including his last three outings.

Lugo allowed only two hits and struck out six Marlins batters, but received minimal run support. The Royals’ lone run came in the first inning when Maikel Garcia walked, stole two bases, and scored on Vinnie Pasquantino’s RBI single.

Defensively, Kyle Isbel made a crucial play in the fourth inning, leaping to catch a ball hit by Josh Bell and preserving Lugo’s no-hit bid momentarily, despite challenging sunlight conditions.

Following the game, Royals strength coach Ryan Stoneberg was selected to join the American League coaching staff at the upcoming MLB All-Star Game, overseeing strength and conditioning.

Next, the Royals will conclude their series against the Marlins, with Brady Singer scheduled to start Wednesday’s matinee at Kauffman Stadium. Singer boasts a 4-2 record and a 3.08 ERA in eight home starts this season.
