Pitt Maintains Contact with 4-Star 2026 Guard
PITTSBURGH — Pitt Panthers Target Four-Star Guard Markus Kerr from North Carolina
The Pitt Panthers are focusing on building relationships with recruits from the Class of 2026, including four-star guard Markus Kerr from North Carolina.
Markus Kerr, a 6-foot-5 guard playing at Julius L. Chambers High School in Charlotte, N.C., and for Team United on the Nike EYBL Circuit, is a key target. Kerr holds offers from several schools, including West Virginia, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, VCU, High Point, Mount St. Mary’s, College of Charleston, North Carolina A&T, Charlotte, Hampton, Radford, and Appalachian State. He has made unofficial visits to NC State, Wake Forest, and College of Charleston.
In addition, Louisville, NC State, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Michigan, South Carolina, and Samford have shown interest but haven’t extended offers yet.
June 15 is significant because it’s the first day the NCAA allows college coaches to contact recruits from the Class of 2026. Coaches typically start contacting recruits at midnight, continuing throughout the day with text messages and calls.
Kerr is rated as a four-star recruit by On3, Rivals, and ESPN. On3 ranks him No. 77 nationally, No. 20 shooting guard, and No. 6 recruit in North Carolina. Rivals ranks him No. 78 nationally, while ESPN ranks him No. 42 for small forwards, No. 47 in the southeast region, and No. 8 in the state.
Kerr discussed his recruitment with Jamie Shaw of On3, highlighting interest from West Virginia, Wake Forest, and Mississippi State, and mentioning contact with Pitt, NC State, Virginia Tech, Michigan, and Texas.
“Trust is big with me,” Kerr told Shaw. “How a coach coaches me really matters. If I make a mistake, I want them to talk me through it rather than just criticize. I’ll get a feel for their coaching style as I go through the process, and I want to be comfortable with that.”
Kerr aims to model his game after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luka Dončić, players known for scoring inside, mid-range, and from behind the arc.
Pitt is also interested in Tarris Bouie, another four-star guard in the Class of 2026 and a teammate of Kerr’s at Julius L. Chambers High School. With Capel’s strong connections in North Carolina, expect continued contact with players from the state in the Class of 2026.
