Lakers Reportedly Interested in Acquiring Former Lottery Pick Center

As the Los Angeles Lakers continue their offseason, their main focus is to address roster concerns, particularly in the frontcourt at the center position.

Although no moves have been made yet, it seems the Lakers may be looking to strengthen their center position. According to Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, the Lakers have shown interest in acquiring center Wendell Carter Jr. from the Orlando Magic.

An executive mentioned that Carter Jr. is exactly the type of player the Lakers should pursue. “He’s fairly young, probably a bit undervalued due to his injury history, and still developing his skillset,” the executive told Heavy Sports. “His contract is reasonable and makes sense for the Lakers. He’s on their radar, but many other teams are interested as well.”

Adding Carter Jr. would significantly bolster the Lakers’ frontcourt. He would provide another strong presence alongside Anthony Davis and can effectively space the floor.

Carter Jr. averaged 11.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 37.4 percent from three-point range. His contract is also very team-friendly, with earnings of $11.9 million this coming season and $10.8 million next year.

The Magic might be interested in acquiring guard D’Angelo Russell in exchange, which could strengthen their backcourt. This potential deal could benefit both teams, but it remains uncertain if the Lakers can make it happen.
