Earlier this offseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning made a significant move by trading star defenseman Mikhail Sergachev to Utah HC in exchange for J.J. Moser, Conor Geekie, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2024 seventh-round pick. Although parting with Sergachev was difficult, the Lightning received a valuable return.

A standout name from this trade for Lightning fans is Moser. In his last three seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, Moser established himself as a solid top-four defenseman and is expected to be a key addition to Tampa Bay’s defensive lineup.
Lightning Score Big with Addition of Top Prospect
Looking at the Lightning’s current roster, Moser is likely to compete for second-pairing minutes. His strong offensive skills from the blue line and reliable defensive play make him a candidate for both power-play and penalty-kill duties.
Moser had a strong 2023-24 season with the Coyotes, recording five goals, 26 points, 99 hits, and 112 blocks in 80 games. This followed a 31-point season in 82 games in 2022-23, demonstrating his ability to contribute offensively from the blue line.
At just 24 years old, Moser likely hasn’t reached his full potential yet. Joining a Lightning team filled with offensive talent could help the Biel, Switzerland native further develop his game. It will be exciting to watch his first season with the Lightning in 2024-25.
