The only conceivable scenario in which the Lions fail to secure the NFC North title is if a highly unlikely set of circumstances unfolds.

The Detroit Lions are on the verge of securing their inaugural NFC North division title, thanks to the results in Week 15. While it’s not technically a mathematical certainty, the recent outcomes in the division make it highly unlikely for the Lions to miss out on the divisional crown.

Despite the narrow possibility of an alternative scenario, the defeats suffered by Minnesota and Green Bay in the past weekend strongly suggest that the Lions will emerge as the division champions.

The Lions’ convincing victory against Denver propelled them to a 10-4 record. The Vikings, on the other hand, lost to the Bengals, bringing their record to 7-7. Green Bay’s chances were extinguished when Detroit secured its win, and the Packers’ subsequent defeat to the Buccaneers sealed their fate at 6-8. Meanwhile, Chicago’s heart-wrenching loss in Cleveland dropped them to a 5-9 record.

In the upcoming Weeks 16 and 18, the Lions and Vikings will face each other, with Detroit holding a favorable position as the early road favorite in the Week 16 game in Minnesota. To snatch the division title from the Lions, the Vikings must win all three of their remaining games and hope for Detroit to lose all three of theirs. In Week 17, the Vikings will face the Packers, while the Lions will take on the Cowboys.

Despite their pursuit of the division title, the Vikings have struggled in recent games, losing three out of their last four, with their sole win being a 3-0 victory over the Raiders in Week 14. Both the Vikings and Packers remain in contention for NFC wild card spots.
