Deshaun Watson is dealing with a sore arm and will miss practice, which is tough for an NFL quarterback who hasn’t had many high-level throws in training camp or played in the preseason. If Watson were a baseball pitcher, he might struggle even more.

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Watson won’t play against the Seahawks in Week 3 of the preseason due to “arm soreness.” However, this shouldn’t matter much to Seahawks fans, as Seattle doesn’t face the Browns in the 2024 regular season. That said, Watson playing in the final preseason game could have been a valuable test for Seattle’s defense.

On the other hand, Geno Smith is expected to play for Seattle, along with most of the team’s starters, though the extent of their playing time is unclear. The Browns have a strong defense, which differs from Seattle’s, so this could serve as a good warm-up for Smith, DK Metcalf, and the rest of the offense before the regular season starts.

As for the Seahawks’ defense under head coach Mike Macdonald, they likely don’t need much more work. Macdonald played his defensive starters in the first preseason game, even though they faced the Chargers’ backup quarterback. However, most of LA’s starting offensive linemen were on the field, providing a useful evaluation of the defense ahead of the regular season.
