Caden Tellier, a quarterback for Selma’s Morgan Academy in Alabama, has tragically passed away due to a head injury sustained during the season-opening high school football game on Friday night, his parents confirmed. Arsella Slagel Tellier and Jamie Tellier shared the heartbreaking news in a joint statement on Facebook following the private school’s game against Southern Academy in Selma.
“Our boy, Caden Tellier, has met Jesus face to face,” the post said. “We are grateful for your prayers and ask for continued support in the difficult days ahead. Everyone who knew Caden experienced his kindness, generosity, and love, and in his true spirit, he is giving one last time. His life has touched many, and now others will be saved through his passing. We will walk with him in these next few days, knowing his spirit is rejoicing in heaven.”
Tellier was reportedly airlifted to a Birmingham hospital after being injured in the third quarter. Michael McLendon, director of the Alabama Independent Schools Association (AISA), initially posted on the AISA Facebook page that Tellier had died, but the post was removed and replaced with an update indicating he was in critical condition.
Tellier’s parents later confirmed the tragic news with another update.
According to *The Montgomery Advertiser*, Morgan Academy has “suspended” all school activities for the remainder of the week.
In a statement, McLendon asked for prayers and comfort for Caden’s family and the Morgan Academy community as they navigate this difficult time.
This marks the second death of a high school football player in Alabama this month. Semaj Wilkins, a 14-year-old at New Brockton High, died on August 13 after collapsing during practice.
