Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves marked Joel Embiid’s first absence of the season for the Philadelphia 76ers. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Embiid missed time with soreness in his left hip.
The Sixers struggled without Embiid and lost their second straight game, 112-99. Philly (10-5) now shares a four-way tie for the second-best record in the Eastern Conference as a result of the loss.
Even though Embiid’s status is listed as day-to-day, it doesn’t seem to be a serious injury, which worries some fans about his future.
On Wednesday, the Sixers participated in the second night of a back-to-back after losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers (8-7) 122-119 in overtime on Tuesday. Thus, the big man’s absence on Wednesday might have been a preemptive move to give him more sleep before Thursday’s Thanksgiving break.
The next road game for Philly is on Saturday against the OKC Thunder (11-4). Whether Embiid will be accessible is still unknown.
