The Las Vegas Raiders secured their first win of the 2024 season with a 26-23 upset over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, thanks in large part to their defense, particularly the secondary. Key players like Jack Jones, Nate Hobbs, and safeties Marcus Epps and Tre’Von Moehrig played a significant role in shutting down the Ravens’ passing game in the second half of the Week 2 matchup.

The secondary has started the season strong, but Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine believes the Raiders should consider adding veteran cornerback Xavien Howard to bolster the group. Despite being unsigned, Howard was a reliable starter for the Miami Dolphins last season, and though injuries have affected him, he has proven effective when healthy.

The Raiders, currently relying on young players to develop, could benefit from Howard’s experience. If someone like Jakorian Bennett doesn’t progress as hoped, Howard could provide solid depth. Although his prime years are behind him, the 31-year-old Howard remains a capable cornerback, having recorded one interception and an 86.7 passer rating when targeted in 2023.

Howard’s best chance for a starting spot would be as a No. 2 corner, but Bennett has impressed early on, allowing just a 54.2 passer rating over the first two games. If the Raiders can acquire Howard at a reasonable cost, he could offer valuable veteran depth and leadership for the defensive backs under coach Ricky Manning.
