Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide surged to a 30-7 lead by halftime, shortly before Trump’s departure. Georgia’s comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points, sparked talk that Trump might have been a good luck charm. However, Alabama fans recall his previous visit in 2019 when the Tide lost to LSU, the eventual national champions.
When asked about Trump’s presence, Alabama players and staff didn’t consider it a major event. Tight end CJ Dippre said it wasn’t a “big distraction,” adding he found it “kind of awesome.”
“I don’t get into politics or vote yet,” Dippre explained, “but it was awesome to have such an icon at the game.”
Linebacker Jihaad Campbell echoed similar sentiments, saying it was just another game day despite the high-profile visitors and coverage. “We didn’t care about external factors,” Campbell said. “We had ‘College GameDay,’ the game was on ABC, but none of it got to us.”
The Tide’s dramatic victory, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown by Ryan Williams, wasn’t attributed to Trump’s presence. “We just had poise and kept fighting,” Campbell added.
