What Comes Next? Examining the Remaining Period of Missouri Football’s Offseason

The whirlwind that is National Signing Day has concluded, and as we look ahead, the Missouri Tigers might not be finished with offseason enhancements.

For Missouri Football enthusiasts, the recent days have been filled with excitement. From all 20 commits sealing the deal on signing day to the recent defensive acquisitions of Darris Smith and Corey Flagg Jr, the Tigers have been actively engaged. However, what lies ahead in terms of future additions?

In the realm of transfers, the spotlight is on sophomore Chris McClellan. The defensive lineman from Florida compiled 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks this season, with a fumble recovery for the Gators. Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, McClellan attracted early interest from the Oklahoma Sooners, and Colorado has also been in the mix. The Tigers seem to be in a favorable position, and an announcement of his commitment could be imminent in the coming days.

Several portal targets are still on the radar for the Tigers, including running back Nate Noel from Appalachian State and defensive lineman Zion Young from Michigan State. Given the dynamic nature of the transfer portal, new players may enter the scene at any moment.

Looking at high school targets for the 2024 class, the Tigers are reportedly favorites for two main prospects. Trajen Greco, a composite 4-star defensive back, is anticipated to choose Columbia, although he did not commit or sign on Signing Day. Greco is set to announce his commitment on January 6 at the All-American Bowl. Another composite 4-star, running back J’Marion Burnette, received multiple predictions to commit to Missouri. However, the addition of 4-star back Kewan Lacy may have impacted Burnette’s decision. With the departure of standout Cody Schrader and backup Nate Peat, there are available running back spots.

The Tigers are also keeping an eye on a couple of uncommitted 3-star prospects, local receiver David Dossett and versatile athlete Brandon Heyward. While these late targets are not confirmed, they remain in consideration.

In the ever-dynamic landscape of college football, player movement is constant, and the offseason is unpredictable. As the saying goes, expect the unexpected, and it won’t be surprising if the Tigers conclude this offseason with several more additions.
