Here’s what we know about Quinn Ewers and his anticipated return from the injury that has sidelined him for two games, as the Texas quarterback aims to play against Oklahoma this week.

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian stated that Ewers would be ready to start at quarterback if the team were playing Oklahoma today, but they are closely monitoring his condition leading up to this week’s rivalry matchup.

“If we had to play today, absolutely,” Sarkisian said regarding Ewers potentially starting a game. “But I want to keep track of his progress daily as he undergoes extended practice.”

“Quinn practiced for three days last week,” Sarkisian noted. “He practiced again today, and I thought he looked good coming off the bye. If anyone benefitted from the time off, it was likely him. We’ll continue to observe him daily to see how he develops.”

He continued, “I feel positive about how he performed today and am optimistic about his chances for Saturday, but that remains uncertain. I want to see how he responds to increased workload to ensure he’s as healthy as possible to compete.”

Ewers sustained an abdominal injury during the Longhorns’ victory over UTSA on September 14 and has not played since.

Arch Manning stepped in for Ewers during that game, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for another, which was the longest run by a Texas quarterback since Vince Young in 2005.

Manning started the following two games for Texas, including their SEC debut against Mississippi State, amassing 900 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions while completing nearly 71% of his passes. He also added 82 rushing yards and three touchdowns during those games.

This season, Ewers has recorded 691 passing yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions, boasting a completion rate of over 73%.

Texas regained the No. 1 spot in this week’s AP Top 25 rankings following Alabama’s loss to Vanderbilt and will face No. 18 Oklahoma this Saturday.
