According to reports, the Bills are one of the few teams still showing interest in Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams.
The Buffalo Bills are one of the few teams still actively pursuing Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, according to The Athletic. In a Tuesday article, Tashan Reed, Vic Tafur, and Dianna Russini identified the Bills along with three other teams in the running.
They noted that the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Pittsburgh Steelers have expressed interest in acquiring Adams after reaching out to the Raiders, while the Bills are keeping an eye on the situation, as per league sources.
Although the reporters didn’t confirm that these four teams are the only ones interested in Adams, they did eliminate several teams previously considered contenders, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, and Baltimore Ravens.
Buffalo’s interest in Davante Adams doesn’t appear as strong as that of the Jets, Saints, and Steelers, which is understandable given the salary cap challenges the team would face to acquire the multi-time All-Pro. Adams has a base salary of $17 million, with $12.5 million remaining this year, according to The Athletic. This amount increases to about $35 million in the final two years of his contract, while the Bills currently have just over $3 million in available salary cap space. For Buffalo to realistically pursue Adams, the Raiders would likely need to consider covering part of his salary this year, which they reportedly are not inclined to do at this moment.
The Bills’ interest in Adams is logical, as they currently lack a true No. 1 receiver in their lineup. After losing Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis in the offseason, Buffalo has assembled a collection of talented yet unproven players. While this group has potential, they have struggled to deliver consistent performances in the first five weeks of the 2024 season, with the wide receivers combining for only four catches on 18 targets in their Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans.
Buffalo’s offense would likely gain a significant advantage from adding a proven top target like Davante Adams. He is undoubtedly among the best wide receivers in the NFL—an exceptionally skilled pass-catcher and one of the most effective route runners in recent memory. Adams has surpassed 1,000 receiving yards in five of his ten professional seasons and has led the league in receiving touchdowns twice while being named to the Pro Bowl six times.
Bringing Adams on board would provide star quarterback Josh Allen with a reliable primary target, transforming the Bills’ offense from potentially dangerous to one of the best in the league. The Raiders are reportedly asking for a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in exchange for the 31-year-old receiver. Buffalo currently has two second-round picks for next year, having obtained an additional selection in a trade involving Stefon Diggs last offseason.
