The Las Vegas Raiders are trading wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, paving the way for a significant reunion with four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news on Tuesday, revealing that the Raiders will receive a conditional third-round draft pick, which could upgrade to a second-rounder based on performance.
Adams rejoins Rodgers after their eight years together at the Green Bay Packers, where they connected on 615 passes for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns, including 5,257 yards and 47 touchdowns from 2018 to 2021.
Adams joins the Jets, who are currently 2-4 following a loss to the Buffalo Bills and the firing of head coach Robert Saleh after a defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in London.
The 31-year-old had requested a trade from the Raiders earlier this month after a screenshot surfaced showing head coach Antonio Pierce ‘liking’ an Instagram post suggesting Adams might have already played his last game with the team.
This season, Adams has played only three games, with his best performance coming in Week Two against the Baltimore Ravens, where he recorded nine catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Drafted in the second round out of Fresno State in 2014, Adams spent his first eight seasons with the Packers, establishing himself as Rodgers’ top target before being traded to the Raiders in 2022 to reunite with his college quarterback.
Adams has achieved four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and five in the last six, leading the league in touchdown receptions in both 2020 and 2022. Since his first 1,000-yard season in 2018, no player has more receiving yards than Adams.
He strengthens an offense featuring third-year star Garrett Wilson, who has 41 catches for 399 yards and three touchdowns this season. Adams will also reconnect with former Packers teammate Allen Lazard, who has 26 receptions for 354 yards and a team-high five touchdowns, including a remarkable Hail Mary catch against the Bills in Week Six.
New York’s pursuit of Adams underscores their championship ambitions with Rodgers, especially after his debut season was abruptly cut short by a season-ending Achilles injury just four plays into the game.
