SAXON’s highly praised 24th studio album, “Hell, Fire And Damnation,” was released in January through Silver Lining Music.
“Hell, Fire And Damnation” is an album where SAXON explores various historical and mysterious themes through ten of their most powerful and confident tracks to date.
On this album, singer Biff Byford showcases some of his strongest vocals in years, while drummer Nigel Glockler and bassist Nibbs Carter deliver thunderous rhythms. The guitars of Doug Scarratt and Brian Tatler bring a fresh and fiery energy, perfectly complementing each other and generating a powerful intensity that will excite fans. Musically, SAXON offers a diverse range, featuring a high-energy homage to heavy metal with the track “Fire And Steel,” a tribute to the birth of NWOBHM in the mid-tempo “Pirates Of The Airwaves,” and perhaps the standout song, “There’s Something In Roswell,” which boasts an expansive groove fit for arenas.
Produced by Andy Sneap (known for his work with JUDAS PRIEST, EXODUS, ACCEPT) and Byford, with Sneap handling mixing and mastering, “Hell, Fire And Damnation” strikes a perfect balance between modern power and a celebration of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal legacy that SAXON helped create.
“I believe this album is one of the best he’s produced in terms of sound, and he has a lot of albums to compare it to,” Biff stated. “It has a truly raw, vibrant quality… the total time spent on making this album was just four weeks at most. You can hear everything clearly; it’s not overcomplicated or over-compressed. The guitar tones are incredible—just great, raw sounds. We haven’t done much overdubbing; it’s all about the performance. I really, really like it.”
Earlier last year, SAXON guitarist Paul Quinn announced he would be stepping back from touring. Consequently, SAXON canceled their April 2023 South American tour and their appearance at the Monsters Of Rock cruise. Quinn has since been replaced on the road by Brian Tatler of DIAMOND HEAD.
Brian has already performed alongside fellow guitarist Doug Scarratt, drummer Nigel Glockler, bassist Tim “Nibbs” Carter, and Biff Byford for several shows in 2023 and 2024, but he will continue to be a member of DIAMOND HEAD.
