Waco, Texas – Texas Men’s Tennis secured both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Texas Regional Championships on Tuesday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Freshman Timo Legout won the singles title and teamed up with sophomore Lucas Brown to take the doubles championship, while junior Jonah Braswell finished as the singles runner-up.
The day began with doubles, where Legout and Brown defeated Baylor’s Luc Koenig and Imran Daniel Abdul Hazli, 6-3, 7-5. The Longhorns started strong, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first set, breaking Baylor on a deuce point for a 3-0 advantage. Despite Baylor managing to pull back one break to make it 5-3, Texas secured the first set at 6-3. The second set was tightly contested, but Legout and Brown managed a crucial break to win it 7-5 and clinch the title.
Legout quickly transitioned to singles, facing Braswell less than an hour later, and emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 6-2. Legout took an early lead of 3-0 with two breaks, though Braswell fought back to 3-2. The set remained on serve until Legout closed it out at 6-4. In the second set, both players exchanged breaks before Legout finished strong, winning four consecutive games to secure the championship.
