Giants Assistant Coach Craig Fitzgerald Set to Leave the Team
Florida Gators beat writer Jacob Rudner reports that Craig Fitzgerald, currently an assistant coach with the New York Giants, is set to depart from the team at the year’s end to take charge of the University of Florida’s strength and conditioning program. As per Rudner, Fitzgerald will assume the role currently held by Mark Hocke, who is transitioning to a different position within head coach Billy Napier’s program.
Fitzgerald, who has been the Giants’ director of strength and performance since 2020 under former head coach Joe Judge, previously worked at the University of Tennessee before entering the NFL with the Giants. During his tenure with the Giants, Fitzgerald collaborated with Sam Coad, the team’s director of performance and assistant strength and conditioning coach, forming a two-person strength and conditioning team.
Boasting over 25 years of coaching experience, Fitzgerald becomes the second known Giants assistant coach to seek opportunities elsewhere post this season. Jeff Nixon, the running backs coach completing his inaugural season with New York, is reportedly moving to Syracuse University to assume the role of offensive coordinator.
The New York Giants are scheduled to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Day, marking the first of two matchups to conclude the season over the next three weeks.
