The Broncos are reportedly sidelining Russell Wilson due to contractual considerations, according to a report.

Following a crucial loss in their playoff push, the Denver Broncos are making a significant decision by sidelining quarterback Russell Wilson for the remaining two games of the season, as reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Despite still being eligible for the postseason, the team is opting to bench Wilson due to contractual considerations. Jarrett Stidham has been named as the starter for the final two games.

Wilson has a $37 million salary for the 2025 season that is set to vest in March of 2024, and it would become fully guaranteed if he fails a physical at that time. The unexpected move strongly suggests that Denver is likely to part ways with Wilson during the offseason before the specified date, aiming to maintain financial flexibility for future endeavors.

Wilson concludes the season with 3,070 passing yards, throwing 26 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. In his absence, 27-year-old journeyman Jarrett Stidham takes over for the Broncos. As of now, Denver has a 6% chance of making the playoffs, according to The New York Times.

Stidham will lead the Broncos (7–8) against the Chargers (5–10) on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
