Seahawks part ways with Frank Clark, who had joined Seattle under a signed contract in October.
The veteran defensive end Frank Clark was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Clark joined the Seahawks in October after being released by the Denver Broncos, but he was excluded from play in three of the last five games despite being in good health.
In the current season, spanning eight games between the Broncos and Seahawks, the three-time Pro Bowler managed eight tackles and no sacks. Selected by Seattle in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft after a standout college career at Michigan, Clark spent his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks before being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019.
During his four seasons with the Chiefs, Clark achieved three Pro Bowl selections and won two Super Bowls. While his regular-season performance included 23.5 sacks in 58 games, he particularly excelled in the playoffs with 10.5 sacks in 12 contests. Kansas City released Clark in March 2023, and despite signing with the Denver Broncos during the offseason, he struggled to establish himself in their pass-rushing rotation, facing similar challenges upon returning to Seattle.
Clark’s overall NFL career spans 128 regular-season games in nine seasons, where he recorded 58.5 sacks, 14 forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. However, his productivity has declined in recent years, with no double-digit sack seasons since his career-high 13 in 2018 and failing to reach the eight-sack mark since 2019.
Given his successful stint with the Chiefs, a return to Kansas City is a plausible option for Clark as he becomes a free agent again. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will proceed with Boye Mafe, Jarran Reed, Dre’Mont Jones, and Darrell Taylor as their primary pass-rushers.
