Falcons May Hire Eric Bieniemy of Commanders to Fill Potential Coaching Position
Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, might be considered as the Atlanta Falcons’ next coach if they decide to part ways with Arthur Smith.
Many fans are ready for a change, even though the Atlanta Falcons still have a chance to win the NFC South.
Entering his third season in Atlanta, Arthur Smith has recently become a target of criticism for many. Perhaps Smith had had enough in Atlanta, given his unwillingness to use important skill players like tight end Kyle Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson and the Falcons’ third-straight losing season.
The Falcons are at least being cautious, even though it is unclear if they will let Smith go—some reports have even suggested otherwise. Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders, is reportedly on the Falcons’ short list in the event that they do have a coaching vacancy, per NFL insider Cam Marino.

Bieniemy, 54, is currently in his rookie season with the Commanders, but his time with the Kansas City Chiefs may have made him more well-known. Bieniemy’s offense never finished lower than sixth in yards or points for in five years under Andy Reid. In that span, he also guided Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, and the rest of the team to two Super Bowl victories.
Bieniemy never had the chance to be the head coach of the team, despite being considered for years. Rather, he made a lateral move to Washington in an effort to establish his superiority over the players he coached in Kansas City.

It is also not the first time the Falcons have mentioned Bieniemy; according to reports, they interviewed him in 2021 before selecting Smith.
Bieniemy will undoubtedly be a player to keep an eye on during the Falcons’ subsequent coaching search if they decide to let go of Smith.
