Thomas Blackshear narrows down his choices to three, with the University of Tennessee still in contention.

Tennessee’s wide receivers coach, Kelsey Pope, has been actively engaging in recruiting efforts since the conclusion of the season, receiving updates on several key prospects. The coaching staff has set significant goals for the 2025 recruiting trail, with a primary focus on maintaining their success in securing top-notch wide receivers.

In the 2024 class, the Vols successfully recruited four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger from Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia. Looking ahead to 2025, their attention is now on Merklinger’s teammate, four-star wide receiver Thomas Blackshear, who holds the 307th spot in 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. Blackshear, having recorded 27 catches for 551 yards and five touchdowns in his junior season, is considering offers from Florida State, Georgia, and Tennessee. He shared insights into his interest in the Vols with On3’s Hunter Shelton, stating, “I have been talking to Tennessee almost every day. They are always checking in, making sure I am doing good and showing me their interest in me.”

While the Vols have excelled in recruiting defensive talent for the 2025 class, securing commitments from corners Shamar Arnoux, Dylan Lewis, and Tyler Redmond from Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia, they have also gained commitments from four-star tight end Jack VanDorselaer and four-star running back Justin Baker. The coaching staff is gearing up for a crucial junior day event scheduled for the weekend of January 20th, which will host several significant visitors.
