The Lions are headed toward their best season-ending record as a team since 2014, when they finished 11-5 and advanced to the postseason. Barry Sanders, a former standout running back, seems to be enjoying every second of it. So much so that he vigorously refuted Tom Brady’s claim that the NFL is currently rife with mediocrity.
Sanders responded to Brady’s remarks during an appearance on Robert Griffin III’s RG3 and The Ones podcast, saying that although they might be relevant to the quarterback’s previous teams, the Lions have been “anything but mediocre.” From a league-wide standpoint, he also commended the NFL product, as Pro Football Talk explained.
“Perhaps he is discussing the teams he was a member of, but the team I was a member of?” stated Sanders. “Not the team I was a member of. It’s far from average. Somewhere I saw that comment. As Lions supporters, perhaps I’m just delusional due to our team’s dominance in the division and our impressive performance. Still, I think this is a fantastic product. Great teams and a hugely popular game are still visible.
“As Lions fans, I believe this is the best product we have ever seen, and I would listen to anything Brady has to say. However, I would need to elaborate on what he means. I will therefore take some time to enjoy this.
Sanders seems to be observing every facet of Detroit’s recent success, and it’s difficult to blame him. With a two-game advantage over the Vikings, this team appears to be in a strong position to win the NFC North, despite a disappointing 29-22 loss to the Packers on Thanksgiving Day.
