Mark Benstead has shared details about the players Philippe Clement is looking to sign at Rangers before the January transfer window closes.
The Gers have so far brought in only Fabio Silva on loan from Wolves, while Sam Lammers has been sent to Utrecht for the rest of the season.
A number of other players have been linked with a move to Ibrox, but the Gers may first have to concentrate on outgoing activity.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News [17 January, 3:40pm], Benstead said: “Rangers have brought in only one player in Fabio Silva, but they want to do more.
“I was speaking to Philippe Clement last night and he will have to address the left-back situation. Their two left-backs have question marks over them.
“Borna Barisic is into the last six months of his deal, while Ridvan Yilmaz has been linked with a whole host of clubs.
“Clement said he can’t be left with one left-back, and that is taking up a bit of time so it’s holding them up from doing business at the top end of the field.”
Time running out
The out-of-the-blue signing of Silva prior to the window even opening suggested Rangers meant business – no pun intended – this month.
However, things have gone rather quiet since then, with no further incoming activity and only one player departing.
That is not to say deals are not being worked on behind the scenes, but it may well be a case of one in, one out before the 1 February deadline.
Ridvan Yilmaz is supposedly wanted by Galatasaray, which could potentially bring in a few million pounds.
If that is the case, Clement will surely be given funds to bring in either a replacement at left-back, or ideally another forward player.
There may still be two weeks of the window left, but time is fast running out for the Gers to get any further deals over the line.
And given the tight nature of the Scottish Premiership title race, that one signing could make all the difference.
In other Rangers news, Chris Jack has shared a “madness” view with regards to a possible transfer development.
