Coventry City seemingly lost their two best players in the summer when Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer departed the Midlands for pastures new – but the resurrection of one star has breathed life back into the Sky Blues.
Coventry have spent the £35million the duo brought in with great care, with the likes of Milan van Ewijk and Haji Wright both impressing amongst others, as Mark Robins’ men aim to finish in the play-offs for a second season running with the intention of going one better at the final hurdle and achieving promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 24 years. But one star will be there, either with Coventry or without, due to his performances at Championship level – and that is Callum O’Hare.
Currently in his fifth season with the Sky Blues, O’Hare was a star when lining up for the club upon their return to the Championship, but a horrible knee injury sustained at the start of last season left him on the sidelines for almost a year, with the star returning to the CBS Arena midway through October.
With Gyokeres and Hamer both gone, there was a slight feeling that whilst Coventry are an astute side and tough to beat, there were moments of magic missing going forward – but O’Hare has certainly stood up to the plate, typified by his late brace against runaway leaders Leicester City on the weekend.
With his contract up at the end of the season, O’Hare most likely won’t be short of any suitors should he decide to run his contract down, but equally, the love that the club have shown him since his move means that he’d equally know exactly where he stands in terms of grabbing a new deal, especially if Coventry are promoted. But should they not go up, there’s no doubting he’d likely have Premier League interest and, as such, will most likely become a top-flight player in either scenario.
