The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the process of expanding their offensive staff and are scheduled to interview three additional candidates. Following the appointment of Arthur Smith as the offensive coordinator, the team is actively considering Tom Arth from the Los Angeles Chargers, Charles London from the Tennessee Titans, and Zach Azzani from the New York Jets for assistant roles, as per information from league sources.
They are also anticipated to conduct interviews with candidates for their available positions in strength and conditioning coaching.
Arth joined the NFL in 2022 with the Chargers. Before his time in Los Angeles, he served as the head coach at Akron (2019-2021), Chattanooga (2017-2018), and John Carroll (2013-2016).
London collaborated with Smith in Atlanta, where he held the position of Falcons quarterbacks coach in 2021 and 2022. His previous roles include working as an offensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears (2007-2009), transitioning to the Tennessee Titans as an offensive assistant (2011), then serving as the Penn State running backs coach (2012-2013), Houston Texans running backs coach (2014-2017), and Bears running backs coach (2018-2020).
In the 2023 season, he served as the Titans’ quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Azzani, the lone candidate lacking NFL passing game coordinator experience, brings extensive college-level expertise. While he has been a wide receivers coach for the Bears (2017), Denver Broncos (2018-2022), and Jets in 2023 in the professional arena, his college background includes stints as a passing game coordinator at Florida in 2010 and Tennessee from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, he held the position of offensive coordinator at Western Kentucky in 2011 and served as assistant head coach at Central Michigan from 2007 to 2009.
During his year-end press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin hinted at impending changes within the team’s coaching staff. The nature of these changes remains uncertain – whether a new addition would replace a current coach or assume a distinct offensive assistant role is unknown.
