Jordan Ross, a five-star edge rusher, is the Tennessee Vols’ highest-rated recruit in their 2024 class.

According to 247Sports, Ross, a 6-foot-5, 233-pound prospect from Birmingham, Alabama, is the top edge rusher in the country and the ninth-best player overall in the 2024 recruiting class.

Ross is a player who, in the past, would have ended up with the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, Tennessee’s early recognition of Ross as a top player helped the Vols grab him from Alabama’s backyard.

Additionally, according to recruiting analyst Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, that issue isn’t getting enough attention.

Recruiting analyst says Tennessee Vols deserve more credit for landing elite 5-star recruit in 2024 class - A to Z Sports

Ivins declared this week that “it (landing Ross) was a great win for the Vols.” “And the reason for that is that their evaluation was excellent. Jordan Ross only has two and a half sacks in his junior year. They know who the talent is, Tennessee. He’s an explosive man with long limbs. On the hardwood, you can see him making dunks. Then, as a senior, he truly made progress. When it comes to the all-star game seasons, he is among the best pass rushers in the Under Armour All-American game. Then he assumed command at the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii.”

“This is a kid who if he was still on the market, Tennessee would have been going head-to-head with all of the big guns out there,” Ivins stated. So well done to the crew for simply doing the task at hand. He’s also a guy; 247Sports has long favored him. He was ranked as our No. 12 prospect going into his senior year. We noticed that, but many others didn’t have him in the five-star level. He has the ability to bend, dip, and navigate past obstacles. I believe he still has some football left in him. Additionally, I believe he has the potential to be a significant player for the Vols.”

There’s a chance that Ross has an impact as a true freshman for the Vols this fall — he’s that talented. But regardless of what kind of impact he has for Tennessee in 2024, he’s going to get the benefit from learning from Vols edge rusher James Pearce, a player that might be the best edge rusher in college football in 2024.

Byron Young, a former edge rusher for the Vols, recently completed his NFL rookie season with eight sacks. Pearce is anticipated to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Ross also has the makings of an edge rusher in the NFL.

Though the offense is always the topic of conversation when discussing Tennessee, Knoxville is home to the Vols’ excellent edge rusher pipeline.
