2024 NFL Draft Prediction: Broncos Execute Significant Trade to Secure Top Quarterback
In the NFL, there are two distinct types of teams: those equipped with a franchise quarterback and those relentlessly seeking to secure one.
The Denver Broncos initially believed they had found their cornerstone quarterback when they traded substantially for Russell Wilson and extended him a lucrative contract. However, following two seasons of unmet expectations, it appears they will part ways with Wilson this offseason and begin the search for a replacement.
Given the limited attractive options in free agency, the Broncos may opt for an audacious move in the 2024 NFL Draft to acquire one of the premier quarterback prospects available.
In the latest 2024 NFL mock draft by Trevor Sikkema at Pro Football Focus, the Broncos orchestrate a significant trade to secure their future franchise quarterback. Denver catapults from their current 12th slot in the first round to the 2nd pick, offering an extensive package to the Washington Commanders in exchange for the opportunity to select North Carolina’s Drake Maye. The proposed trade includes Denver’s 12th pick, their second-round pick in 2024, and their first-round picks in the subsequent two drafts.
Maye appears to be a promising fit for Sean Payton’s offensive scheme, highlighting the considerable cost associated with such a monumental leap in the draft, especially for an elite quarterback prospect.
However, Washington’s maneuvering doesn’t conclude there. They further trade up from the 12th spot to the 10th, exchanging positions with the New York Jets, to secure their own rookie quarterback in Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy.
McCarthy joins Maye, along with USC’s Caleb Williams (drafted 1st by the Chicago Bears) and LSU’s Jayden Daniels (drafted 3rd by the New England Patriots), as top-10 quarterbacks in this mock.
This projection also sees a fifth quarterback, Oregon’s Bo Nix, entering the first round as the Minnesota Vikings trade back into the draft to secure him with the 30th pick.
