Three actions the Detroit Lions must take to advance to Super Bowl LIX.

The Detroit Lions entered the 2023 season amid significant hype, prompting questions about their ability to live up to those high expectations. They responded emphatically, securing a 12-5 regular season record, clinching a division title, winning two playoff games, and advancing to the NFC Championship Game.

However, despite holding a surprising 24-7 halftime lead against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, the Lions ultimately fell short of reaching the Super Bowl.

In the biggest game of the season, Dan Campbell’s unwavering aggressiveness on fourth down remained unchanged, much to the dissatisfaction of those advocating for taking the safer option of scoring points. Yet, it was this very aggressiveness that propelled the Lions to their position. Had it succeeded, Campbell would have been hailed a hero.

Now, the Lions are focused on taking the proverbial “next step” towards Super Bowl contention, perhaps aiming for multiple appearances in the years ahead (while remaining realistic). While the roster has few glaring needs, potential losses in free agency could create unexpected gaps, emphasizing the importance of addressing key areas for improvement during the offseason.
