‘Embracing him’… Analyst impressed by Daniel Farke’s management of ‘remarkable’ Leeds player.
The Italian star returned to the team despite Leeds’ refusal to sell him, but he had to wait for his chance. Cree Summerville and Dan James’ good form limited Gnonto mostly to substitute appearances during the first part of the season. However, this changed around the new year and in January, especially with James getting injured.
Several fringe players have recently made their way into the starting lineup and cemented their positions. Gnonto, along with Patrick Bamford, Junior Firpo, and Ilia Gruev, are now considered first-choice players.
Adrian Clarke, speaking on the What The EFL? podcast, commended manager Farke for his handling of Gnonto, who scored two goals against Swansea on Tuesday night, describing Gnonto as “stupendous.”
“Farke had to offer support, help him overcome the disappointment of not securing a transfer, and reintegrate him into the team. He kept him on the sidelines for most of the season because James and Summerville were performing so well. Yet, Farke kept him motivated, brought him on at the right moments, and maintained his interest. Gnonto received more playing time and capitalized on his opportunities. He truly was outstanding, and the fans were thrilled with him.”
