The repercussions of the car accident Haywood Highsmith caused still loom large as he faces a lawsuit from the victim whose leg was partially amputated.
The Miami forward is being sued by a 21-year-old man who sustained serious injuries, including the loss of part of his leg, in a collision earlier this month.
Highsmith was driving home after a game when he collided with a disabled car and Alekxei Pino, who was assisting with pushing the vehicle.
According to TMZ, Pino alleges in the lawsuit that Highsmith was speeding above the legal limit before the crash, resulting in the amputation.
Pino also suffered other significant injuries and has undergone multiple medical procedures since. His attorney, Manuel Dobrinsky, stated that Pino is still hospitalized and faces a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Pino and Dobrinsky are seeking unspecified damages, expected to exceed $50,000. Despite this legal issue, Highsmith has been a key player for the Miami team over the past two seasons, starting in multiple games and contributing solid statistics on the court.
