The New England Patriots announce the addition of 17 new coaches following Bill Belichick’s 23-year tenure.

The New England Patriots have undergone significant changes, introducing 17 new coaches to collaborate with their new leader, Jerod Mayo. This transition follows the departure of Bill Belichick, with Mayo, aged 37, stepping in as the franchise’s 15th coach shortly after Belichick’s departure. With the recent announcements, the Patriots have welcomed a total of 19 new additions to their coaching staff, including offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer. Additionally, former defensive line coach DeMarcus Covington has been promoted to defensive coordinator.

Notably, this expanded coaching team already surpasses the 18 assistants under Belichick’s leadership last season, and further arrivals are anticipated, with rumors suggesting that the staff could exceed 24 coaches.

While the overhaul encompasses various aspects, the primary focus appears to be on revitalizing the offense. Every offensive position within the staff has been filled with new hires, including Alex Van Pelt as coordinator, recruited from the Cleveland Browns. Ben McAdoo, the former head coach of the New York Giants, now serves as the senior offensive assistant, a role previously held by the new tight ends coach, Bob Bicknell, during his tenure with the New Orleans Saints.

The running backs coach, Taylor Embree, joins from the New York Jets, while Tyler Hughes returns as the wide receivers coach after a year at the University of Washington. Robert Kugler takes on the role of assistant offensive line coach following two years with the Carolina Panthers, and Michael McCarthy assumes the position of offensive coaching assistant/quality control, having held similar roles with the Browns and the Detroit Lions.
