Leeds United star Ethan Ampadu has been spotted in tunnel footage from Elland Road firing a jibe at Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca following the Whites’ win over the Foxes.
Daniel Farke’s side cut the gap at the top of the Championship table to seven points with an impressive 3-1 win on Friday (23 February) thanks to goals from Connor Roberts, Patrick Bamford and an own-goal from Wout Faes.
Before the game, Leicester boss Maresca insisted that it was a “huge game” for Leeds but just another clash for the Foxes and it appears as though Ampadu was quick to remember that after the full-time whistle.
In the video posted to Leeds’ X account on Friday (23 February), Ampadu says: “Tell you what, that was a huge, huge game wasn’t it.”
There can often be turning points in seasons when you least expect it and Friday night’s clash between Leeds United and Leicester City has the potential to be a decisive moment in the Championship campaign.
Most pundits have begun to view the Whites as favourites for automatic promotion this year, but if they keep picking up points against teams at the top of the table, they could close the gap and pip Leicester to the title.
But Farke’s side have to keep their focus and not get too far ahead of themselves. If they celebrate Friday’s win too much, they could fall into Marseca’s trap and peak too early in the season.
Hopefully, this will be just another, well celebrated, step in the right direction for Leeds this season as they are genuinely capable of achieving something remarkable this term if they maintain this current run of form.
