Wigan Warriors are urged to capitalize on the success of the “remarkable” World Club Challenge event, with coach Matt Peet aiming for further achievements.

The reigning champions of the Super League enjoyed a capacity crowd of 24,091 at the DW Stadium for Saturday’s highly anticipated match against the Penrith Panthers.

Additionally, with an average of 350,000 viewers tuning in live on the BBC, the game proved to be a success following an impressive build-up that featured performances by Heather Small and Russell Watson, along with a fireworks display. The fan village at Robin Park Arena remained open throughout the day.

Wigan coach Matt Peet emphasized the need for the club to capitalize on the success of Saturday’s World Club Challenge event, which saw Wigan clinch their fifth title with a 16-12 victory over the NRL’s three-time champions, matching the Sydney Roosters’ record.

Peet expressed pride in the achievement, attributing it to the efforts of everyone within the organization. He stressed the importance of continuing to build on the energy generated by the event, aiming for more memorable nights for the club and the British game.

Peet, having won every available trophy in just 66 games as Warriors coach, expressed his hunger for further success. He sees Wigan as favorites to win all domestic titles in 2024 and emphasized the need for continuous improvement, both on and off the field.

He credited the success of the event to the team’s dedication, coaching staff, and community engagement efforts. Peet believes the club’s culture has played a significant role in their recent achievements, noting the sell-out crowd and expressing the belief that even more tickets could have been sold.

Despite the intensity of the World Club Challenge, Peet assured that there would be no lingering effects as they return to Super League action, focusing only on the positive outcomes.
