On Monday night, an event unfolded that captivated attention. Not the Heels narrowly escaping an upset attempt from a Miami team, despite holding a 13-point lead. Not the lapses in Carolina’s ability to counter a press defense, resulting in turnovers to the Hurricanes. Not even the standout performance of RJ Davis, although it is somewhat related.
There existed a pivotal moment—following Davis’ impressive step-back move that left Matthew Cleveland struggling but preceding the ball swishing through the basket—where time seemed to halt. With 36 points already scored by Davis, the previous possession showcased his resilience against a larger opponent, effortlessly sinking a three-pointer that extended the Tar Heel lead to ten. It epitomized scoring finesse for an undersized guard: deft floaters, lightning-quick moves to outmaneuver defenders, and Davis’ knack for creating space on the perimeter.
