Ben Simmons of the Nets continues to be out of action due to an undisclosed leg injury.
Ben Simmons will continue to sit out for the Brooklyn Nets’ third consecutive game on Saturday against the Atlanta Hawks due to a left leg injury. Initially labeled as questionable, Simmons was later ruled out due to soreness in his left knee. However, the team clarified that it’s a leg injury rather than specifically a knee issue. This isn’t the first time there’s been confusion regarding Simmons’ injury status. Following an injury during a game on February 24, interim head coach Kevin Ollie initially referred to it as a knee problem before the team corrected the diagnosis, identifying it as a leg ailment.
Simmons has a history of left knee problems along with various other injuries. Last season, he missed significant time due to knee issues, undergoing procedures such as blood drainage and platelet-rich plasma injections. This season, he was sidelined for three months due to a back injury and then suffered the knee injury in his first game back on January 29 against the Utah Jazz, leading to swelling and another absence.
The former number-one pick has played 15 games this season after missing the second half of the previous season due to a nerve impingement in his back. Before his recent injury, Simmons struggled to find his form under Ollie’s coaching, averaging 3.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in his last three games.
Additionally, Cam Thomas will also miss his third consecutive game on Saturday. Thomas, who shares the title of Brooklyn’s top scorer this season with Mikal Bridges, is averaging 20.9 points per game with shooting splits of 44/36/84.
Ollie has described both Simmons and Thomas as day-to-day regarding their injuries.
