Nick Gordon of the Miami Marlins claims he doubts the existence of the moon.
Miami Marlins utility player Nick Gordon expressed an unusual perspective during a spring training interview with Bally Sports on Thursday.
Gordon, who joined the Marlins last month following three years with the Minnesota Twins, stated his disbelief in the reality of the moon.
“I don’t think the moon is real,” Gordon shared with Bally Sports’ Jeremy Taché during Miami Mic’d Up. “I don’t want to delve into it too much because I don’t want people thinking I’m crazy. The moon. The whole concept. Let’s not even go there.”
Offering a rationale, Gordon explained that his viewpoint isn’t entirely baseless.
“The earth and the moon. Gravitational pull. The moon seems unnaturally close, man. … Sometimes, you go outside at night and there’s no sign of the moon. Seriously, you either see the sun or nothing,” he elaborated.
“Now that I’ve mentioned it to you, you’ll start noticing. Just look up at night, and one day you’ll be puzzled,” Gordon added.
Gordon’s 2023 season was largely marred by injuries, including a fractured right tibia sustained after fouling a pitch off his right shin. He played in 34 games, batting .176 with two home runs and seven RBI.
His father, Tom Gordon, enjoyed a lengthy 21-season career in Major League Baseball, concluding with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2009.
