Matt Canada, the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was let go. Who’s gonna take his place?

Even though the team has a respectable record, it’s obvious that something is wrong in Pittsburgh. Now, the question is whether the new OC can improve matters.

To those who argue that the Steelers are a winning team, this may seem like an overreaction, but it is true that the team has not performed well given their current 6-4 record.

The Pittsburgh Steelers bench Matt Canada, their offensive coordinator

The Pittsburgh Steelers have fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada, the team announced on Tuesday. Additionally, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed Canada’s dismissal in a statement. “Matt Canada has been relieved of his responsibilities as offensive coordinator. I value his diligence and commitment and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Regarding the future, it is anticipated that the Steelers will name running backs coach Eddie Faulkner as their offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Mike Sullivan as their play caller. This basically means that when it comes to the offense, the team is splitting up the game planning duties. The situation starts to make sense when you take into account that during Canada’s three seasons, the team did not record more than 400 yards of offense at any point. That was the Steelers’ story for a total of 58 games in a row, which was good enough to make it the second-longest streak of that kind in NFL history.

The Steelers represent a statistical outlier.

As previously stated, the Steelers have a record of 6-4. This is astounding when you consider that the team is the first to be outgained in each of their first eight games and still have a winning record since the NFL started keeping track of receiving and rushing statistics in 1933. In terms of specifics, since 1970, quarterback Kenny Pickett has had the lowest pass touchdown percentage (1.9%) of any quarterback with 500 or more attempts. Regarding the team itself, this season the Steelers have averaged 16.6 points per game.
