Piakura extends, and Oates, Staines, and Chester resign in 2024 NRL Signings Tracker

Brendan Piakura, a forward for the Broncos, has agreed to stay with the team for an additional three years, ending at the conclusion of the 2027 campaign.

The back-rower, who has signed a contract through 2024, made 13 appearances in 2023 and established himself as a regular in the NRL.

The Broncos coach Kevin Walters stated, “We saw Brendan step up last season and start to show what he’s capable of, which is some really exciting footy.”

The seasoned flyer Corey Oates will play for the Broncos for a 12th season after agreeing to a one-year contract extension with the 2023 finalists, as the team previously announced.

Oates played his first NRL game for Brisbane against the Storm in Round 17 of the 2013 season. He went on to play in 201 NRL games, including the grand final in 2015.

With 118 tries, the 29-year-old is fourth on the Broncos’ all-time try-scoring list, behind only Michael Hancock, Darren Lockyer, and Steve Renouf.

“I’ll be trying to prove to myself that I’ve still got it and to show the coaches that I’ve still got it as well,” Oates stated.

Charlie Staines, a winger for the Wests Tigers, inked a new two-year contract that will last until the end of the 2025 campaign. After 39 games and a championship with the Panthers, Staines signed with the Tigers in 2023; however, injuries derailed his season.

Tom Chester, a local junior, has signed a contract extension with the Cowboys that will keep him with the team through at least the end of 2025.

The 22-year-old made his North Queensland debut in 2022. Last season, he played in seven NRL games, starting three of them as a fullback.

Matt Moylan, who was released from the last year of his contract with Cronulla to join Leigh, will immediately move to Super League in 2024. After making his debut in 2013, Moylan—a Test and Origin representative—played 102 games for the Sharks and 89 games for the Panthers. He’ll sign a two-year contract with the Leopards that will keep him with the team through the end of 2025.

International Siua Wong of the Sydney Roosters has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the team through at least the end of the 2026 campaign.
