Marquise Brown updates the Cardinals’ contract negotiations
Marquise Brown and the Arizona Cardinals appear to want to stay together longer.
ARIZONA — With six games remaining in the season, the Arizona Cardinals are currently 2-9, but it’s never too early to start planning for the future. The team is set to embark on another significant offseason, one that will provide it over $60 million in cap space and plenty of draft capital in the 2024 NFL Draft. General Manager Monti Ossenfort is expected to repeat his successful first offseason.
The status of wide receiver Marquise Brown, who will become a free agent at the end of the fifth and final year of his rookie contract in the coming months, is one of the most important concerns.
Though the receiver recently told Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic that negotiations were going well on both ends, Brown did not receive a contract extension prior to the season.
“I’ve already made more money where I come from than I ever thought I could, so it’s a blessing for me to be in the NFL. I have no room to be bitter or sour about anything; there’s no justification for it for me. Instead, I just go out here, thank God I’m here, and try to be better.” Brown stated.
Arizona is where I want to be. It seems like they want me to be here as well. I just do what I have to do on the field and leave that to my agent.
It’s anticipated that Brown will base his new contract on the recent 4-year, $72 million agreement signed by former Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk. Recuperated quarterback Kyler Murray and rising rookie wide receiver Michael Wilson, along with Brown and an outside addition (perhaps a specific Ohio State player? ), would produce a potent receiving group.
“Not even that I’ve asked. It is not within my power. When questioned about the timeliness of a possible deal, Brown responded. Jonathan Gannon, or JG, preaches that you shouldn’t worry about things that are out of your control. My entire attention is not on the game plan if I’m sitting here worrying about that. I thus don’t really pay attention to the contract.
