Packers Beat Lions to Make a Huge Move in NFL Playoff Odds

The Packers recently defeated the Lions in a significant victory that affected the most recent NFL postseason odds.

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin: It wasn’t too long ago to wonder if the Green Bay Packers would select among the top five picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. After their victory against the Detroit Lions on Thursday, the question now is whether they can surprise everyone and claim a postseason spot.

The Packers were +265 at Fan Duel Sportsbook to make the playoffs before Thursday’s kickoff at Detroit. That represents a 27.4% implied probability. That had improved to +118 on Sunday morning, or a 45.9 percent implied probability.

The Packers are now eighth in the NFC playoff standings after defeating the Lions and Chargers back-to-back. They are one game behind the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks for the final two wild-card berths with a 5-6 record.

Even though the Super Bowl is a long way off, all the signs point to Green Bay playing for at least one more week in January.

The Packers have five games left in the regular season, including a Sunday night matchup at Lambeau Field against the formidable Kansas City Chiefs, who are 6.5-point favorites at SI Sportsbook. The last stretch includes games against the Giants, the Buccaneers at home, the Panthers and Vikings away, and the Bears at home. The only team with a winning record is the Vikings.

In the meantime, the last six contests for the:

Vikings: at home against the Packers and Lions, away to the Raiders and Bengals, at home against the Bears, and at the Lions for the season finale. The Vikings will need to make due with journeyman quarterback Joshua Dobbs until they get back star receiver Justin Jefferson, possibly for Monday’s game against the Bears.

Seahawks: at home versus the Eagles, at the Titans, at the Cowboys and 49ers, and at the Cardinals. Before starting a three-game stretch against opponents with a combined record of 25-7, Seattle has lost three of its previous four games.

Following a four-game winning streak, the Packers’ over/under win total had dropped to 6.5. It’s currently tied at DraftKings with Seattle and Minnesota at 8.5.

The Packers are +20000 at SI Sportsbook to win the Super Bowl (the Chiefs, Eagles, and 49ers are +450), and the Lions are -1613 and the Vikings are +550 to win the NFC North.
